Georgia’s National COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation Plan 2022 has been discussed at the meeting of the Immunization Council.
The participants of the meeting reflected on prioritization of target groups, the new coronavirus variant Omicron, and the effectiveness of vaccination against the new variant.
Based on international recommendations and the epidemiological specifics of the country, the plan is to vaccinate 70% of the total population by July 2022.
The target groups remain the same this year: elderly, people with chronic diseases, and medical personnel.
The Covid-19 Vaccination Plan 2022 highlights the importance of booster doses.
It was noted that Omicron is characterized by rapid spread, and this adds value to thorough adherence to norms of epidemiological safety and the significance of the booster dose.
The Plan also takes into consideration the possibility of appearance on the market of the vaccines that are currently in the process of development.
The Immunization Council once again addresses the public with the request to maximally avoid mass gatherings, wear face masks, keep social distancing and get actively involved in the vaccination process.
