John McAfee, the creator of the McAfee antivirus software, was found dead in his jail cell near Barcelona in an apparent suicide Wednesday, hours after a Spanish court approved his extradition to the United States to face tax charges punishable by decades in prison, authorities said.
The Catalan justice department said medics had tried to resuscitate the 75-year-old, but were not successful, reported the BBC.
“In October 2020, John McAfee was arrested in Spain when he was about to board a plane to Turkey, accused of failing to file tax returns for four years, despite earning millions from consulting work, speaking engagements, crypto-currencies and selling the rights to his life story,” reads the article.
