Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, said trade between Georgia and Turkmenistan increased by 26% last year, surpassing $100 million, as he addressed the second Georgia-Turkmenistan Business Forum.
Kobakhidze said the positive trend has continued this year but noted that economic ties still fall short of the two countries’ full potential.
“Today, Georgia and Turkmenistan are stable and reliable trading partners,” the PM said. “Despite the current progress, trade and economic relations between our countries still do not fully reflect the great potential that Georgia and Turkmenistan have.”
The PM said Turkmen businesses are already active in Georgia in sectors including transport and logistics, construction, agriculture and real estate. He identified energy, renewable energy, the digital economy, information technologies, tourism, agriculture and manufacturing as areas with strong potential for further cooperation.
Kobakhidze also welcomed Turkmenistan’s interest in developing logistics and warehousing facilities near Georgia’s Black Sea ports, saying the future Anaklia deep-sea port and planned free industrial zone could provide new opportunities for Turkmen companies to access regional markets.
He added that the private sector would play a key role in translating political ties between the two countries into investment, jobs and economic growth.
The business forum was held during the official visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and a Turkmen delegation to Georgia.
