Sybiha: We want to turn a new page with our Georgian partners

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, said Kyiv seeks to “turn a new page” in relations with Georgia and confirmed plans to meet with his Georgian counterpart in Moldova in the near future.

Speaking in Brussels ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers and responding to a question from Euroscope, Sybiha said there had already been positive diplomatic engagement between the two countries’ leaders.

“We want to turn a new page with our Georgian partners. There was a historic meeting between our leaders in Yerevan. It was a good exchange of views. We are ready to continue this kind of constructive dialogue,” Sybiha stated.

The Ukrainian foreign minister said he plans to meet with Georgia’s foreign minister in Moldova soon as part of efforts to improve bilateral ties.

“In the near future, I will meet with my Georgian counterpart in Moldova. Therefore, we want to properly organize the direction of our bilateral relations. Our people and societies deserve this,” he said.

Sybiha acknowledged that several “sensitive issues” remain on the bilateral agenda but stressed Kyiv’s readiness to move forward.

“Yes, there are several sensitive issues on our bilateral agenda, but we are ready to move forward,” the Ukrainian foreign minister added.

His remarks come after a recent meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Yerevan, which both sides described as an opportunity to exchange views on bilateral relations and regional developments.
