Panel Discussion on “Child Right’s Code – Challenges and Opportunities”

On International Children’s Day, June 1st, World Vision Georgia hosted a panel discussion on “The Child Right’s Code – Challenges and Opportunities” at the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel.

The LIVE event was streamed on the official Facebook pages of World Vision Georgia and the EU Delegation in Georgia.

During the panel discussion, people had the opportunity to ask questions and express their opinion on the issues raised during the LIVE event.

The event was organized by World Vision Georgia in the framework of the EU-funded project “Reinforcing the Child Welfare and Protection System in Georgia.” The invited guest speakers were representatives of the Delegation of the European Union in Georgia, the LEPL Agency for State Care and Assistance for the Victims of Human Trafficking, the Children’s Welfare League, and the Patriarchate of Georgia. The meeting was facilitated by WVG Child Protection, Advocacy and External Engagement Unit Head – Maya Mgeliashvili.

The aim of the online event was to summarize the achievements of the project and discuss the challenges during the implementation of the Child Right’s Code.

The Child Right’s Code came into force on September 1, 2020. The purpose of the Code is to “ensure the welfare of the child by facilitating the effective implementation of the Constitution of Georgia, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, its Additional Protocols and other international legal acts recognized by the State.”

In the framework of the EU-funded project “Reinforcing the Child Welfare and Protection System in Georgia”, World Vision Georgia together with its partner organizations has carried out series of activities to support the implementation of the Child Right’s Code in Georgia – developed child protection departments in local municipalities; developed various training modules; trained 316 foster parents; and trained 250 social workers.
