99% of Georgian citrus exports are carried out to the CIS countries, the review of the ISET research institute claims.
“Despite the decrease in citrus production, the export rate is characterized by a generally increasing but variable trend. More than 99% of the exported product goes to the CIS countries, and only 1% to the European Union”.
The Commonwealth of Independent States includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova (suspended participation), Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The forecast of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia predicts that this year’s citrus harvest will reach 55,000 tons.
90% of the citrus fruits grown in Georgia are tangerines, while the amount of oranges and lemons is relatively low.
