  • Lolly’s Frozen Yogurt: A Success Story Backed by TBC

The story of Lolly began in 2015 when Beka Kezherashvili, a programmer by profession, envisioned creating frozen yogurt as a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream. His inspiration came during his time in Europe, where he discovered frozen yogurt as a delightful and nutritious treat.

For sweet lovers, Lolly offers the perfect combination of flavor and health. Compared to regular ice cream, it contains significantly less fat and sugar while being rich in protein, probiotics, calcium, and vitamins.

Launching such a unique product wasn’t easy. „We worked tirelessly to educate customers about how frozen yogurt differs from traditional ice cream,“ recalls Beka. „Within two or three months of opening, we started seeing the results.“

Today, Lolly offers customers a personalized experience with over 30 topping options, including six types of fresh fruits, various chocolate sauces, nuts, and more. Customers can craft their own frozen yogurt to suit their tastes. In addition to frozen yogurt, Lolly also serves Belgian waffles that pair perfectly with their signature treat.

Currently, Lolly operates in five locations across Tbilisi and one in Batumi’s Central Park. With its sights set on growth, the company is preparing to expand further, both locally and internationally.

This success story was made possible with the support of TBC, showcasing how innovative ideas can thrive with the right backing.

  • GEL Dynamics and Foreign Exchange Accumulation: TBC Capital’s Weekly Insights

According to the latest macroeconomic indicators, the potential for large-scale foreign currency purchases has diminished significantly. Historically, such transactions contributed to the devaluation of the Georgian lari (GEL), a trend offset by net foreign exchange inflows and the National Bank of Georgia’s (NBG) currency interventions. At present, however, this source of devaluation pressure seems to have subsided. Still, there is no indication of a substantial increase in foreign currency supply either.

The accumulated foreign exchange reserves held by individuals and businesses are not equivalent to the NBG’s international reserves, but they represent a significant amount—well beyond a few hundred million USD—making them a critical factor in determining the lari’s exchange rate.

Updated Projections

TBC Capital’s base projection, initially targeting an exchange rate of 2.8 GEL to the USD by year-end, has been revised to a slightly more favorable 2.73 GEL. A reasonable question arises: if the foreign exchange buffers are robust and net inflows remain strong, why does the revised scenario not predict further strengthening of the lari?

Several explanations address this:

  1. Unrealized Market Supply: The market availability of accumulated currency remains uncertain.
  2. Reserve Replenishment Priority: Any increase in foreign exchange supply is more likely to replenish the NBG’s reserves than to drive significant lari appreciation.
  3. Inflationary Concerns: With October’s annual inflation at just 0.3%, further strengthening of the GEL could risk deflation, which, like high inflation, is generally undesirable.

Additionally, TBC Capital’s assessments indicate that the lari is close to its short- and long-term equilibrium levels, leaving little justification for further appreciation.

Seasonality and External Influences

Seasonal trends in the lari’s performance have become less pronounced in recent years due to increased market awareness and adaptive behavior in currency trading. Meanwhile, movements in the USD against other currencies remain a crucial factor. Although the medium-term outlook suggests a potential weakening of the dollar, this trend has faced growing opposition recently, and near-term dollar weakening appears unlikely.

Economic Growth and Policy Implications

Economic activity remains robust, with TBC Capital estimating approximately 9% GDP growth in October, though with a broader range of uncertainty than usual. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve’s recent rate cut increases the likelihood that the NBG will reduce its refinancing rate by 25 basis points during its December meeting, revising earlier expectations of an unchanged rate of 8%.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: TBC Supports Third Annual Exhibition and Sale

On November 23, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Expo Georgia’s XI Pavilion will host the third annual „Exhibition and Sale of Women Entrepreneurs’ Products“, organized by the United Nations Women’s Organization and supported by TBC.

This year, 145 female entrepreneurs from Georgia will participate, including refugee women from Ukraine and other countries. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a wide array of products such as food, wine, beverages, gifts, toys, accessories, handicrafts, decor, beauty and personal care items, as well as festive New Year’s souvenirs. Interactive masterclasses will allow attendees to create New Year-themed items using sustainable, green technologies.

TBC will enhance the experience by organizing entertainment and educational activities for children, alongside curated food and music spaces to complement the festive atmosphere.

In preparation for the exhibition, special workshops will be held to educate women entrepreneurs on topics such as leveraging artificial intelligence in business, sustainable business practices, exporting to the European Union, and the benefits of e-commerce.

The event aims to empower women entrepreneurs by fostering new business connections, sharing valuable knowledge, and establishing partnerships. It is organized in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Georgian Farmers’ Association, the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and private sector stakeholders.

The initiative is part of the UN Women’s project, Good Governance for Gender Equality in Georgia, funded by the Norwegian government, under its economic empowerment of women component.

📍 Location: Expo Georgia, XI Pavilion, Tsereteli Ave. 118

📅 Date: November 23

🕙 Time: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

  • Tibisi Matsne – Connecting Communities Through Agriculture and Engagement

„Tibisi Matsne“ is a printed newspaper dedicated to providing engaging, informative, and practical content on agriculture to rural communities. Its goal is to support residents in Georgia’s regions with useful advice while also spotlighting small and medium-sized businesses.

The newspaper is distributed across four regions of Georgia—Samegrelo, Imereti, Kakheti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti—reaching approximately 70 towns and villages. „Tibisi Matsne” is free of charge and available at TBC Bank branches in these areas.

Recently, the second issue of the newspaper introduced a special feature to delight its readers: a fun and interactive game with a cash prize.

How to Participate in the Sticker Game

Inside the newspaper, readers will find a section with agro-themed stickers and designated spaces to paste them. To complete the challenge, participants must collect seven unique stickers. Since no single newspaper contains all seven, readers are encouraged to trade stickers with others to complete their collection.

Once a reader has filled in all the blanks with the required stickers, they can submit their completed page at any TBC Bank branch. The first participant to do so will win a cash prize of 500 GEL.

„Tibisi Matsne“ not only informs but also brings communities together, fostering connections through shared activities and meaningful content.
