Anzor Erkomaishvili, a famous musician, folklorist, founder and leader of the ensemble ‘Rustavi’, as well as a former MP, has died of coronavirus at the age of 80.
Erkomaishvili was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was being treated at the First University Clinic in Tbilisi. He was put on mechanical ventilation due to a severe condition before death.
Mr. Erkomaishvili was a world-famous singer, composer, researcher and publisher of Georgian records for various archives around the world, and at the same time, the founder of popular Georgian ensembles – ‘Rustavi’ and ‘Martve’. His contribution to Georgian culture is immortal.
