Two cases of the Omicron strain of Coronavirus have been confirmed in Georgia, stated Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Disease Control.
Gamkrelidze says that both patients infected with Omicron are Georgian citizens. One of them has a history of traveling to the US, and the other to Dubai. The NCDC Head added that currently both of them are in isolation and they have mild symptoms. Healthcare workers are investigating 26 contacts.
A new strain of the coronavirus called Omicron was confirmed in South Africa on November 24.
The World Health Organization says Omicron has already been spread in 89 countries.
