Locals living in the village of Shukruti in Chiatura, Georgia’s mining town, who have been demanding compensation from Georgian Manganese, arrived in Tbilisi and held a protest rally in front of the US Embassy. They were not allowed to set up a tent near the US embassy and spent the night in cars.
“The government has not been interested in our health or housing problems. Therefore, we would like to address the US Ambassador. The government thinks of us only during the elections. We appeal to Kelly Degnan, so she might get interested in our problems,” said one of the participants of the protest.
