Chernyshova reiterated UNDP support to Public Defender and stressed that effective and unhindered work of national human rights institutions is critically important to achieving Georgia’s national priorities and fulfilling international commitments in the areas of human rights and sustainable development.
UNDP Head expressed hope that Public Defender, based on constitutional rights and duties, will be fully involved in resolving worrying developments surrounding the Ninotsminda Boarding School. Chernyshova noted that all related decisions must be taken and implemented by the respective authorities based on fundamental human rights principles.
Chernyshova and Lomjaria also discussed UNDP’s ongoing cooperation with the Public Defender’s Office that addresses major human rights areas, including the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups.
