Tbilisi State University will host a presentation of two books by Professor Naira Bepieva dedicated to the study of Ossetian culture and literary heritage.
The event, organized by the university’s Georgian–Ossetian Relations Research Center, will take place on March 6 at 15:00 in the foyer of the assembly hall of TSU’s first academic building in Tbilisi.
During the presentation, two of Bepieva’s works, ‘History of Ossetian Literature and Ossetian Folklore’, will be introduced to the public. Both books explore main aspects of Ossetian cultural and literary traditions and contribute to scholarly research on the region’s cultural heritage.
The book ‘History of Ossetian Literature’ examines the development of Ossetian literary tradition from its earliest stages to the present day. It covers the formation of early literature, the role of religious texts, the contributions of foundational writers and the creative work of Ossetian authors across different periods. The study is based on newly analyzed academic materials that have not previously been examined within the broader context of Ossetian literary history. For Georgian readers, the book also offers one of the first comprehensive introductions to the lives and works of contemporary Ossetian writers.
Bepieva’s second work, ‘Ossetian Folklore’, focuses on the major themes and traditions of Ossetian folk culture. The book explores Ossetian mythology, the famous Nart epic, and the legends of the Tsartsiats while also analyzing the characteristics of Ossetian folk poetry. The research includes a comparative perspective that places Ossetian folklore within the broader Georgian and Caucasian cultural context. The publication also features the author’s own translations of Ossetian folklore texts.
Both books were published within a program supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and are intended for researchers, students and readers interested in the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Caucasus.
