The Minister of Health of Georgia, Ekaterine Tikaradze stated it is especially important to vaccinate people over 60 because the statistics of both Georgia and other countries show that at this age there is a high level of hospitalization, resuscitation, and high mortality.
Tikaradze noted the example of other countries shows that more than 90% of citizens over the age of 60 have been vaccinated. Therefore, she believes Georgia should remain on its original path, which meant that the population above 60 should be vaccinated as much as possible.
“The statistics are heavy, but over the last week, we have observed that the infection rate is below one, today it is 0.91, which is encouraging, but it is important that this benchmark is maintained and further lowered so that the hospital sector can cope. Mortality is reduced by vaccination and it is important that citizens over the age of 60 are vaccinated as much as possible, this maximum number for me personally is at least 90 percent above the age of 60,” Tikaradze said.
The Minister noted that up to 40 percent of the citizens in the country have been vaccinated.
