During the Tbilisi Municipal Government meeting, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced that the well-demanded Rustaveli Avenue rehabilitation will begin in May and is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
“The road is in poor condition. We plan to start the project in May and aim to finish it entirely by the end of summer,” he stated.
Initially, Tbilisi City Hall announced four tenders worth GEL 28.4 million in the scope of the project. Two of them, valued at GEL 8.7 million, were meant for the Al. Chavchvadze Street to Z. Chichinadze Street, while another two, valued at GEL 6.8 million, for the section between Z. Chichinadze Street and Freedom Squared. However, both failed because no bidders appeared.
In the meantime, the tenders for two other stretches between T. Chovelidze Steer and Rustaveli metro station, worth GEL 4.3 million, and a section between Rustaveli metro station and Al. Chavchavadze Street, valued at GEL 8.4 million, attracted a sole bidder, LLC DIN Group and currently is evaluating the project.
“There were some issues that prevented companies from taking part, but the tenders will be reissued, and we will have winning contractors,” Kaladze said, acknowledging the failed tenders.
