Tbilisi State Medical University plans to begin offering medical services to international patients, expanding its activities beyond attracting foreign students.
The university has announced a simplified procurement worth GEL 500,000 to support the initiative which is scheduled to be implemented in 2026. Procurement documents state that the project promotes the ‘export’ of medical services by bringing foreign patients to Georgia.
The university notes that attracting international students already represents an important form of service export for the country, contributing to Georgia’s trade balance and helping position the country as an educational hub. In the same way, the development of medical tourism is seen as a strategic direction, particularly as TSMU operates modern, high-tech clinics capable of delivering treatment to international patients.
TSMU Rector Irakli Natroshvili stated that the first stage of the program will focus exclusively on dental care.
“Until now, we have not provided this service. It concerns only dentistry, and now we want to implement it,” he said.
The procurement and related activities are expected to support both the university’s educational and clinical capacities, while helping attract foreign students and patients to Georgia’s healthcare and education sectors.
