In Georgia, the study of patients with Post-Covid Syndrome is starting today. The study covers only Tbilisi and will examine patients who had the virus in the last two months.

Tengiz Tsertsvadze, General Director of Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center, says that 400 people will take part in the research. Patients will be selected randomly. Post-Covid Syndrome refers to a case when a person had been affected with the virus and may have resulting complications. The aim of the study is to determine the incidence of Post-Covid Syndrome in patients who had the virus.

“Patients involved in this study will be examined completely free of charge to find out the genesis of their Post-Covid Syndrome. Statistics will show the percent who develop this syndrome. In parallel, a state program will be developed, where an algorithm will be written based on the results of this study, to determine what services should be provided to each post-Covid patient. Study participants will not be treated now, only diagnosed, and after the results, there will be treatment if a patient needs it. It might not be needed, the syndrome of many is such that it will pass by itself, but it might be necessary for some,” Tsertsvadze noted.
