The World Week of Italian Cuisine returns for its ninth year, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, from November 16-22, 2024. This year’s theme is “Mediterranean Diet: Health and Traditions.” The week highlights Italian culinary heritage and the unique Mediterranean diet, recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, emphasizing a healthy, affordable, and environmentally sustainable lifestyle.
In Georgia, the celebration is dedicated to the cuisine of the Campania region, continuing the Italian Embassy’s efforts to promote Campania through the arts, education, and now, cuisine.
The Italian Embassy in Georgia, in cooperation with the Tbilisi office of the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ICE-ITA) and supported by various sponsors and partners, is pleased to offer the following events:
November 17
The celebration begins with an event devoted to pizza, the iconic dish of Italian cuisine. Hosted at ExpoGeorgia (starting at 4:00 p.m., free entry), this pizza festival features a masterclass on pizza dough led by Italian chefs visiting Georgia specifically for the occasion, a competition among professional pizzeria chefs in Tbilisi, and a tasting of various pizza styles. Attendees can watch the complete pizza-making process, enjoy Italy’s most famous dish made with natural ingredients, and discover some of the best pizza in Tbilisi.
November 18
A gala dinner will present the exquisite cuisine of Campania and the flavors of the Mediterranean. Chef Salvatore La Ragione, of the Michelin-starred restaurant Mammà, along with Diego Buttiglione, a finalist from Masterchef Italia, will offer a specially curated menu showcasing their culinary vision. The dinner will be accompanied by classical music performances from Marika Gulordava (soprano), Armaz Darashvili (tenor), and Temur Eliava (pianist), creating a memorable experience for gourmets.
November 19
Chef Diego Buttiglione and representatives from the renowned Italian flour producer Molino Casillo will conduct a masterclass for aspiring chefs at the Culinary Academy of Agrarian University of Georgia.
November 20
Domenico Raimondo, president of the Consorzio Tutela Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, will lead a seminar for enogastronomic professionals, including restaurant and supermarket chain representatives, with a tasting of Campania delicacies. This event, held at the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia (starting at 4:00 p.m.), will also feature an exhibition of pasta sculptures by students from the Dante Art School, as part of the “Macaroni Crafts” competition organized by the Italian Embassy and the Tbilisi Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society. The day will conclude with an award ceremony for the competition’s winning piece.
Later that day, chef Salvatore La Ragione and Molino Casillo will host a culinary demonstration and masterclass for restaurateurs and industry professionals, during which the Italian chef will share his insights into the culinary world.
Throughout the week, major supermarket chains and select Italian restaurants in Tbilisi will offer special dishes, menus, and events for Italian cuisine enthusiasts.
