For the first time in three decades, direct regular flights between Russia and occupied Abkhazia will resume, Russian media report.
The inaugural flight on the Vnukovo–Sokhumi route will be operated by UVT Aero, which moved up its schedule from May 3 to May 1 due to high demand.
Two additional companies, Ifly Airlines and NordStar, are also planning to facilitate routes to Sokhumi, with flights departing from Moscow and Krasnoyarsk.
This is a significant escalation in direct Russian-Abkhazian transport links amid ongoing tensions over Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories.
