MEP Rasa Juknevičienė has urged new parliamentary elections in Georgia, labeling the last one as ‘stolen’.
She spoke during the latest European Parliament debate on the ‘Crackdown on Peaceful Pro-European Demonstrators in Georgia’, stating that they do not see any way other than re-elections to help the current political and social turmoil of the country.
Juknevičienė called on the EU member states to impose sanctions on individuals responsible for fraudulent elections and violence against demonstrators who protest the regime, saying, “We urge heads and ministers of member states not to wait to go to Tbilisi,” and to introduce sanctions right away.
She also said that President Salome Zurabishvili is “the only legitimate president elected by people until the new elections.”
