A large protest is underway in central Tbilisi, where demonstrators have completely blocked Rustaveli Avenue and Freedom Square.
The rally began with a student march from the first building of Tbilisi State University (TSU) and later merged with the main protest on Rustaveli. Carrying Georgian flags, participants say their goal is to “fight for the salvation of the homeland.” Organizers have branded the day as the beginning of a “Flag Revolution,” urging citizens to join the demonstration with national flags.
Today marks the 311th consecutive day of protest. Demonstrators continue to demand the release of those detained during earlier rallies and the announcement of new parliamentary elections.
A stage has been set up on Freedom Square, with the main part of the protest scheduled to take place outside the Tbilisi City Council building.
