The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has announced a decision to appeal the Tbilisi City Court ruling that found Giorgi Akhobadze not guilty of charges related to the illegal acquisition and possession of a significant quantity of narcotics.
Akhobadze was detained on December 8, 2024 and accused of possessing 3.73 grams of the synthetic stimulant Alpha-PVP (α-PVP), classified under Georgian law as a particularly large quantity. The charges followed an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As the Prosecutor’s Office stated, all relevant evidence was submitted and reviewed during the trial. However, the court dismissed the prosecution’s arguments and acquitted Akhobadze, ordering his release from custody. Authorities confirmed that the verdict will be appealed at the Tbilisi Court of Appeals upon receipt of the court’s reasoned decision.
“The Tbilisi City Court reviewed all evidence submitted in the case but ultimately rejected the prosecution’s arguments, acquitting the defendant of all charges and ordering his release. The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has announced its intention to appeal the verdict to the Tbilisi Court of Appeals once the court’s reasoned decision is received,” the statement reads.
