Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has announced plans for the construction of an airport in Telavi, Kakheti, which is scheduled to begin this year. During a government meeting, he revealed that the airport is expected to welcome its first passengers in May- June 2024, with a budget allocation of 25-30 million GEL.
“There was a historical airfield in Telavi, and we want to install new, modern infrastructure, and create a new Telavi airport in this place,” he said. “We will start construction this year. We want the airport to receive its first passengers in May-June 2024, it will be completed very soon. For the project, 25-30 million GEL has been allocated. We will completely renovate, the runway will be extended to 1,700 meters, modern navigation systems will be arranged, the entire infrastructure will be updated, new parking spaces will be created, and comfortable spaces for passengers. Telavi will have a modern airport!”
