Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, issued a statement stating that assistance to socially vulnerable children from July 1, instead of 50 GEL will increase to 100 GEL.
“We have taken a number of steps to protect the rights of children, to ensure equal conditions for their healthy living, development, and self-realization. However, unfortunately, we are still far from the desired situation. Poverty among children remains a challenge. The problem is particularly acute in pandemic conditions.
“To reduce child poverty, we aim to improve the social policy.
“According to our decision, the assistance to socially vulnerable children will increase to 100 GEL from July 1, instead of the existing 50 GEL. The number of children receiving assistance will also increase. Instead of the existing 100,000 points, children living in families with less than 120,000 points will receive 100 GEL assistance. This decision will affect more than 215 thousand children.
145 million GEL will be allocated annually from the budget to finance this program,” reads the statement.
