Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), Davit Narmania, announced that electricity consumers in Georgia are likely to face higher tariffs starting next year. The final decision on the scale of the increase will be made public at the commission’s session scheduled for December 29, 2025.
Narmania stated that GNERC is currently reviewing electricity and natural gas tariffs. While electricity prices are expected to rise, there are no grounds for an increase in natural gas tariffs, aside from the possibility of a very minor technical adjustment. He also confirmed that water tariffs will remain unchanged.
The regulator explained that the electricity tariff revision process is ongoing and involves several components, including audits of electricity companies, an assessment of new investment projects and the clarification of costs associated with older infrastructure projects. These factors will form the basis for determining the new tariff levels.
Due to the complexity of the review process, GNERC has not yet specified the exact percentage or amount of the electricity tariff increase. However, Narmania emphasized that the commission is working on the issue daily and that electricity consumers should prepare for higher charges in 2026.
