The Ministry of Culture has purchased a historic building of more than 400 sq / m for the Georgian Art Palace.
The new building is located next to the current Georgian Art Palace on Kargareteli Street, Tbilisi, and will house the collections of the Museum of Folk and Applied Arts of Georgia which were donated to the Palace of Arts two years ago. To date, these exhibits had no special and safe space for their storage. Among the collections are unique fabrics, as well as silver ornaments owned by the Georgian State Museum of Folk and Applied Art since 1911.
In order to protect and secure the unique collections, the Ministry of Culture purchased a historic building from a private individual on behalf of the state, a building that was part of the Palace of Arts in the 19th century.
The purchased building will be used to house and store the relevant collections of the museum. From 2022, it is planned to rehabilitate it and establish it as a full-fledged museum space.
