The Minister of Economy of Georgia Levan Davitashvili stated of the fire in Borjomi municipality that if the wind does not complicate the process of extinguishing the fire, it is expected that the fire will be completely extinguished within two days.
“Today we had a discussion on this issue in the format of the government session. Three ministers – the Minister of Environment and Agriculture, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Defense will be in Borjomi Municipality, they will visit the fire fighting works, we will have more means of communication and we will hear more information from them. According to the information available today, the fire is being localized, therefore, if the wind does not increase and the weather allows us, in principle the fire should be completely extinguished within one or two days,” said Davitashvili.
He noted that this is a very difficult process. A lot depends on what the weather will be like.
“It is important for us to localize the fire first so that the fire does not spread to other areas. At the moment, there is no risk of it spreading to the populated areas. At the moment, the fire has spread to 150 hectares,” Davitashvili noted, adding that it is too early to talk about damage and loss, more information will be provided in the future.
