Paata Burchuladze, leader of the “Rustaveli Avenue” movement, remains resolute and intends to continue his political struggle, said his lawyer, Levan Kavelashvili.
Speaking to InterpressNews, Kavelashvili said he visited Burchuladze this morning at the Dighomi temporary detention facility. “We were with him at dawn. Mr. Burchuladze feels resolute and proud to be where he is for the love of this country. No charges have been formally presented yet, so we cannot discuss details, but his health is stable. He is exhausted due to injuries sustained during the rally, but he is feeling better and determined to continue the fight,” Kavelashvili stated.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recently detained leaders of the “Rustaveli Avenue” movement, including Burchuladze and Murtaz Zodelava, as well as several opposition figures: Irakli Nadiradze of the National Movement, Paata Manjgaladze of Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and Colonel Lasha Beridze.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze confirmed that the detainees are charged with inciting the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order and organizing, leading, or participating in group violence—offenses punishable by up to nine years in prison.
