US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said in an interview for “Voice of America” that it is difficult to understand why some politicians are so eager to divide Georgia and its allies at such a time, adding that Georgia has no greater friend than the United States.
“We remain committed to Georgia’s success and will continue to work with the Georgian people to help achieve our common goal, which is a more peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Georgia that will be fully integrated into the Euro-Atlantic family,” Degnan said.
She remarked that any attempt to distance Georgia from its natural allies only serves narrow interests and not the interests of the Georgian people.
“The close strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia has brought great benefits to both Georgia and the United States. Over the past 30 years, we have provided more than six billion dollars in aid to Georgia, thousands of Georgians have participated in exchange programs, and the United States has trained tens of thousands of Georgian soldiers to better protect Georgia’s borders,” Degnan said.
