The 2025 grape harvest season has officially opened in Kakheti, beginning in the Dedoplistskaro municipality. The National Wine Agency stated that by September 2, local wineries had already processed about 3,500 tons of grapes.
This year’s harvest will expand slowly to other municipalities in Kakheti as vineyards reach the required ripeness levels. Around 200 wine companies are registered with the Grape Harvest Coordination Headquarters which will oversee grape reception and processing throughout the season.
Farmers and wine producers can access real-time harvest information and assistance through the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture’s hotline (1501) or the Coordination Headquarters directly at 0322 193 283.
In a policy shift, the government will no longer subsidize private wine companies. Instead, the state enterprise Crop Management Company will purchase surplus grapes at set differentiated prices: GEL 1.50 per kilogram for Saperavi, GEL 1.20 for other permitted wine varieties, and GEL 1.00 for damaged or substandard grapes.
