The Authorization Council has officially granted Ilia State University full authorization for the next six years, changing its prior decision to impose a one-year monitoring period.
The university challenged the council’s earlier decision with the argument that accreditation experts gave the institution high evaluations in June, and the council downgraded their assessments without any justification. Ilia State University’s appeal against what it called an ‘unwarranted’ monitoring requirement was submitted in September.
The final decision was made during a session following protests, with demonstrators claiming that last year’s ruling was politically motivated, alleging that ‘a punitive measure’ was taken against the university due to its students and faculty members’ critical views on the ruling Georgian Dream party.
With this latest ruling, Ilia State University has full authorization without additional conditions for the next six years.
