Today, the Prime Minister declared that 20,000 GEL will be provided to the families of those who lost their lives during the landslide in Shovi, and they will either sell houses or offer monetary assistance to the victims of the disaster in Guria.
According to the Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, a portion of the funds will be disbursed from the reserve fund, with contributions also coming from the budget of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, as well as local municipalities.
“Compensation will be covered from the reserve fund, at the same time expenses will be paid in the part of the disaster. People who are currently evicted and live in hotels, their living expenses are also covered by the state. The study of the houses that need to be vacated is very active. Today we know that the number of such families exceeds 200, but when the study is finally completed and the specialists will say whether it is possible to live there or not, only then will the payment be made.
It will be in cash or the state itself will buy the house. It is very difficult to say now what the scale will be, although it will be several tens of millions of GEL. During the year, it is about 100 million GEL in total, which will be spent for disaster relief works. Part of the funding will come from the reserve fund, part from the regional fund, and part from the budget of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the municipality,” Khutsishvili said.
