Statement from Giorgi Gakharia, former PM and party leader of “For Georgia”:
“The Resolution of the European Parliament is problematic for Georgia in many aspects, however, while the ruling party Georgian Dream and the “National Opposition“ try to show that key messages of the Resolution are sanctions against one person, on the one hand, and imprisonment of another person, on another, we really lose the key message for the State.
“The European Parliament addressed European institutions to grant unconditional membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, while for Georgia the status is conditional to the future activities and efforts to be implemented.
Today, the biggest threat for Georgia is to separate from Ukraine and Moldova, distance from the “Associated Trio,“ which served as a basis for EU enlargement discussions and where Georgia was the leader. It is the real threat that the EU perspective for Georgia – the one for which our ancestors fought and our children dream of – will be lost. Georgian Dream is ready to keep power at any cost, while the National Opposition is ready to pay any cost to regain power. We, the citizens of Georgia, should unite for the country and keep the perspective for freedom and the European future of our children! No one should stand above the interests of the State! Everyone will pay a heavy price for acting against the interests of the country! No one will be freed from this responsibility!
