Geostat recently published data revealing that Georgia had 114 active slaughterhouses in 2024 and the distribution by region is as follows:
- Kakheti – 18.4%
- Shida Kartli – 16.7%
- Imereti – 15.8%
- Kvemo Kartli – 14.9%
- Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 9.6%
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 9.6%
- Other regions – 15%
The report also revealed that 145,700 livestock were slaughtered in total. The breakdown is as follows:
- 60.1% pigs
- 29% cattle
- 9% sheep and goats
- 2% other livestock (excluding poultry)
For information, 3.28 million poultry were processed during the fourth quarter of the year, while meat production for the period equaled 17,400 tons with the following distribution:
- 36.1% poultry
- 34.8% pork
- 27.9% beef
- 1.1% mutton and goat meat
- Other meats – negligible share
As disclosed, overall, slaughterhouses offered services to 9,500 clients, of which 58.3% were households, whereas the sector’s employment rate averaged 1,047 people a month.
Average processing fees were:
- 37.2 GEL per cattle
- 30.7 GEL per pig
- 12.5 GEL per sheep or goat
