Georgian musician, composer Vazha Azarashvili passed away at the age of 87. The Creative Union of Georgian Composers announced.
Vazha Azarashvili graduated from the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory in 1961, having studied under Iona Tuskia, and then under the leadership of Prof. Andria Balanchivadze. After, Azarashvili becam a teacher in parallel with his creative work.
The composer dedicated many songs to his native Tbilisi, including “Tbilisi Lyrical”, “Song of Tbilisi”, “Song of Metekhi”, his songs “Music”, “Days go by”, “Little girl”, “The sun is my friend” are widely popular. , “It’s raining again”, “Song is all my property”, “Dinamo, Dinamo!” and others.
Vazha Azarashvili was awarded many honorary titles and prizes for his contribution to Georgian art. He is a laureate of the Communist Union of the Georgian SSR (1974), Council of Ministers of the Georgian SSR (1982), Iakob Gogebashvili (1998), Zakaria Paliashvili (2003) and Georgian State Prizes (2004), Honored Worker of Art (1979), Georgia People’s Artist (1988), Knight of the Order of Honor (1998), Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi (1999).
