Georgia is preparing to go through one of the most extensive sports infrastructure projects in its history, with construction of dozens of new stadiums set to begin in 2025. The plan was announced by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during the 2025 Best Athlete Awards ceremony.
The government initiative aims the development of 30 technical stadiums and eight full-scale stadiums across the country to strengthen both grassroots and professional sports. Kobakhidze stated that the project is designed to ensure balanced access to modern sports facilities in all regions.
Under the program, technical stadiums will be gradually introduced in every municipality while eight cities will receive large-scale stadiums capable of hosting professional competitions. The Prime Minister noted that each municipality is also expected to benefit from multifunctional sports centers serving multiple disciplines.
The government views the project as a long-term investment in public health, athletic development, and regional growth.
