A large-scale residential complex in line with modern standards is under construction in the city of Rustavi to accommodate internally displaced families. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.
The ministry stated that the complex consists of four newly built residential buildings where 800 internally displaced families will receive fully renovated apartments. The project is financed from the state budget, with a total cost of GEL 80,971,596.
To ensure a complete and livable environment, the residential complex will include a stadium, children’s playgrounds and outdoor exercise areas. The goal is not only to provide housing, but also to create appropriate social and recreational infrastructure for displaced families.
At the same time, the IDP Agency has already begun assessing applications submitted by families wishing to be resettled in the Rustavi complex. In line with legislation, each family will be assigned a preliminary score based on the documentation they provide. The resettlement of the 800 internally displaced families in Rustavi is planned for next year.
The construction process was visited by Deputy Minister Giorgi Tsagareishvili and the Director of the IDP Agency, Davit Kaikatsishvili who familiarized themselves with the progress of the project.
The ministry also noted that during the current year, 1,614 internally displaced families have already received fully renovated apartments nationwide. Among them, 762 families were recently resettled in Tbilisi. Alongside with the Rustavi project, residential complexes for displaced families are currently under construction in Tbilisi, Zugdidi and Borjomi.
