The Georgian Foreign Relations Committee discussed and approved the Draft Resolution on Endorsement of the State Concept on Economic Empowerment of Women. The Concept, related to the participation of women in economics, was introduced by one of the initiators, Chair of the Gender Equality Council, Nino Tsilosani.
“The economic empowerment of women facilitates the economic development of the country, which can be achieved through the elimination of the pay gap and an increase in economic diversification, as well as the improvement of the competitive capacity of the country, which guarantees economic sustainability. The Concept is directed to the enhancement of the equality rights in Georgia through the economic empowerment of women, which in turn will facilitate the welfare and economic prosperity of the country,” she noted.
The Concept is related to the priorities envisaged under a new Georgia-EU Association Agenda and responds to compliance with Recommendation No.9 set out by the EU, which provides the state vision on eradication of women’s poverty and their economic empowerment. The starting point of the document is the transformation on individual, public, institutional and political levels.
