Finding Beauty in Bonsai: An Interview with Levani Gurgenishvili

Levani Gurgenishvili’s journey into the world of bonsai artistry began in an unexpected way, sparked by a mix of personal challenges and newfound passions during the pandemic. As he navigated through difficult times, he stumbled upon the intricate beauty of Japanese culture and, with it, the art of bonsai.

The Discovery of Passion

Levani recalls how his initial encounters with bonsai were transformative. “Alif is the smallest to describe. It developed more,” he says, indicating how his understanding of the craft evolved. Reflecting on his school days, he mentions experimenting with a slightly different technique, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that he felt a true shift in his life. Random videos on Japanese culture led him down a path of inspiration, culminating in his desire to create bonsai trees.

“I went to the appropriate stores, bought tools, and started with the first tree,” Levani shares. His passion was ignited by a combination of beauty and a yearning for creation. “It hurts me how beautiful something is here,” he explains, highlighting the emotional connection he has with the art form.

Crafting Peace and Stability

As Levani continued to develop his skills, he found that working with bonsai provided him a sense of peace and stability. “It calms me down every time I am in a bad mood,” he notes. The process of shaping trees became his sanctuary, a way to escape life’s stresses. “I forget everything and you can say that it is my savior piece,” he adds, illustrating the profound impact bonsai has on his mental well-being.

This therapeutic quality of bonsai resonates with many artists who find solace in their craft. The act of creation often serves as a meditative practice, allowing individuals to connect with nature and themselves. For Levani, bonsai is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing forms; it is about nurturing a living entity and developing a relationship with it over time.

An Artistic Journey

Levani’s work, particularly with dwarf trees, showcases his unique style and vision. He describes his approach: “I’m trying to include stone elements and dried branches, creating a variety that reflects my artistic vision.” This experimentation with shapes and colors has not only allowed him to express himself but also to connect with others who appreciate his craft.

In bonsai, every tree tells a story, shaped by the hands of its creator and the environment in which it grows. This interplay of nature and artistry is what makes bonsai a captivating form of expression. Levani believes that bonsai represents more than just a hobby; it embodies a philosophy of patience, resilience, and beauty in imperfection.

A Journey of Growth

Despite facing challenges and making mistakes along the way, Levani has embraced his growth as an artist. “In spite of my mistakes, I have developed and come to this day,” he reflects, a testament to his resilience and dedication to his art. This journey of continual learning is a fundamental aspect of being an artist, and Levani’s commitment to honing his craft is evident in his work.

His creations have not gone unnoticed. Customers admire his work, often remarking on its beauty. “The new bond, so to speak, is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,” he smiles, recognizing the joy his art brings to others. This feedback not only motivates him but also reinforces the communal aspect of bonsai, where the appreciation of art fosters connections among people.

Engaging with the Community

Levani actively shares his journey and creations on social media, encouraging others to connect with him. His Facebook and Instagram pages, “Hand Made Bonsai Three V” and his personal page under his name, Levani Gurgenishvili, serve as platforms for showcasing his artistry and engaging with fellow bonsai enthusiasts.

In a world increasingly driven by technology, Levani’s dedication to traditional artistry reminds us of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the process of creation. Through his bonsai, he invites others to reflect on the beauty of nature and the intricate dance of life that unfolds within each tree.

As he continues to explore the depths of bonsai, Levani Gurgenishvili’s story serves as a reminder of how art can provide solace and a sense of purpose, even in the most challenging of times. Through each tree he cultivates, he not only creates beauty but also fosters a community that appreciates the delicate balance of nature and artistry. In this way, bonsai becomes more than a craft; it transforms into a spiritual journey, a celebration of life, and a testament to the artist’s enduring spirit.
