On April 16, the exhibition “Georgian Exhibits Abroad” (reconstruction) was opened under the organization of “Sakdrisi Committee for Cultural Heritage”.
Georgian exhibits preserved in the State Hermitage Museum were exhibited – 8 exhibits.
For a long time, they were stored in the Hermitage storage, only in 2006 a permanent exhibition was created. The exhibition is based on a scientific work, the only publication – “Georgian Toreutics of the Middle Ages – Research and Attributions in the Hermitage Collection”, which will tell you the stories of the Georgian exhibits displayed in the Hermitage and their removal from Georgia. The idea of creating a scientific work on Georgian treasures belongs to the director of the Historical-Cultural Foundation, Pati Tsereteli, and the author is Alvida Mirzoyan, candidate of science in art history, who worked for many years in the Hermitage and was the guard of Georgian treasures.
It is still unknown to the public what treasures are kept in the State Hermitage. The exhibition “Georgian Exhibits Abroad” allows the public to learn about the heritage, the existence of which they do not know, and which is an important part of the history of Georgia, such as the fragments of the Pinak (small sum), which was used by Jesus Christ and his disciples during the Last Supper and in the 10th century got to Georgia; Also 7 silver plates of the oldest and most famous icon of the Transfiguration, etc.
The exposition was visually decorated by artist-designer Teona Bekauri.
The exhibition can be viewed from April 17-21 at “Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace.”
