The European Union’s most recent sanction package has been revealed, penalizing third-country airlines that operate domestic flights within Russia.
“The EU’s 16th sanctions package provides for the possibility of including in the sanctions list those third-country airlines that perform domestic flights in Russia or supply aviation products to Russian airlines,” the European Commission stated, pointing out efforts to restrain operators that help Russia overlook EU aviation restrictions.
If sanctioned, these airlines will be banned from flying to the EU.
For the time being, only Russian airlines operate domestic flights, however, Interfax reports that Russia’s Ministry of Transport has implied permission could be given to some foreign companies as well.
