On October 17, the European Council held a meeting in Brussels and voiced their opinions regarding the Georgian government’s actions clashing with EU values. They came out in strong support of the Georgian people and their European aspirations.
The European Council declared that they will monitor the Georgian parliamentary elections and the country’s general situation closely to ensure that both domestic and international observers have easy access and their rights are secured.
Furthermore, the EU Council emphasized the significance of independent and free media outlets.
“The European Council reaffirms the European Union’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. It underlines the European Union’s continued commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and its policy of non-recognition and engagement,” the statement says.
