Eter Liparteliani has made history by becoming Georgia’s first-ever female judoka to win a gold medal at the Judo World Championship. The 25-year-old won the world title in Budapest, defeating Japan’s Momo Tamaoki in the final match.
The Judo World Championship kicked off in Budapest on June 13, bringing together top athletes from around the globe and Liparteliani dominated the -57 kg category from start to finish, winning every single bout by ippon — the highest possible score in judo. Before the final, she defeated Ju Kim of South Korea, Daria Kurbonmamadova of Russia, Pihla Salonen of Finland and Maýsa Pardayeva of Turkmenistan.
In the final showdown, Liparteliani’s victory over Tamaoki secured her place in Georgian sports history.
