CENN to Establish a Scholarship in Tribute to Chichiko Janelidze

With the aim of supporting environmental education, CENN will establish a scholarship for students in the name of the renowned Geographer and Ecologist, Chichiko Janelidze.

The Green Scholarship will be disbursed this year. Prize money will be awarded annually to exceptional young adults in the environmental field.

During his sixty years of scientific and practical work, Chichiko Janelidze continuously provided accurate, expert assessments and recommendations to the public in the field of ecology, climate, geography and geology. As a mentor and a teacher, he has earned special love from the youth.

Chichiko Janelidze graduated from Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Geography and Geology, specializing in economic geography in 1961. In 1964-81 he worked at the Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography. He also completed a postgraduate course in geomorphology. He defended his Candidate’s dissertation in 1971 on the topic: ‘Development of Physical-Geographical Conditions of Georgia in the Holocene.’
