Batumi has been named Europe’s Leading Four-Season Tourist Destination at the prestigious World Travel Awards, one of the global tourism industry’s most significant annual events. The announcement was made at a ceremony held in Italy, with the participation of a Georgian delegation led by Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Adjara.
Tamazashvili stated that the recognition reflects the joint efforts of national and local authorities, the private sector and the community in developing Batumi into a year-round travel destination.
“This important recognition for our city is the result of coordinated efforts across all sectors,” said Tamazashvili. “Tourism remains a top priority for the government — not only as a driver of economic growth but also as a powerful means of showcasing our cultural identity. Our history, traditions, and values make Georgia unique, and by preserving these, we can further strengthen the region’s tourism potential, which in turn benefits every family and enhances the country’s global image.”
The Adjaran delegation at the event also included members of the regional government, Tinatin Zoidze, Head of the Tourism Department and Giorgi Tsintsadze, Acting Mayor of Batumi.
At this year’s awards, Batumi competed with several major European destinations, including Budapest, Geneva, Munich, Oslo, Salzburg, Stockholm and Tallinn — cities long established on the continental tourism map.
