The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has arrested two Turkish citizens accused of selling a large batch of counterfeit excise stamps. The arrests followed a series of coordinated operational and investigative measures carried out by law enforcement officers.
The agency stated that the investigation determined that the suspects sold 2,000 fake Georgian excise stamps for USD 1,000, intending to gain illegal profit. All counterfeit stamps were seized during the operation and are being held as material evidence.
The case is being investigated under Part 2 of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia which covers the production, sale, or use of counterfeit excise stamps and carries a penalty of four to six years of imprisonment.
