Turkish budget airline AJet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, has officially launched direct flights between Ankara and Tbilisi, marking its first operation on this route. The carrier will fly four times a week connecting the two capitals.
The inaugural flight was welcomed at Tbilisi International Airport with a ceremony attended by Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Airports Union Director Levan Moseshvili, Civil Aviation Agency officials, and representatives of TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi airports. Passengers arriving on the first flight included Archil Kalandia, Georgia’s Ambassador to Turkey, and Kerem Sarf, AJet’s CEO.
The launch of Ankara–Tbilisi direct flights was first announced during the Georgian President’s official visit to Turkey and further discussed within the framework of the Georgia–Turkey Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission co-chaired by Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili and Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister.
Turkey remains Georgia’s most active air travel partner. In 2024, more than 1.2 million passengers traveled between the two countries, representing 47% of Georgia’s total cross-border passenger flow with neighboring states.
Georgia’s aviation sector is also seeing record growth. In the first eight months of 2025, the country’s airports handled 24,915 flights, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Passenger traffic reached 5.6 million, up by 14% year-on-year, with approximately 700 scheduled flights per week across Georgia’s three international airports.
