In an attempt to honor humanity’s oldest wine-making tradition, the first-ever Clay Wine Contest has successfully launched a platform celebrating wines fermented in clay vessels, with 9 countries registering over 80 entries. The contest will showcase Amphora, Qvevri, and other clay-related methods to connect wine professionals and consumers.

2025 Contest Highlights:

  • Judges opted for detailed feedback over rankings.
  • Two top prizes and six ‘Best of the Best’ accolades were awarded.
  • Winners include:
    • White: Mildiani Family Winery, Bouquet Kisi Qvevri 2014 (Georgia)
    • Red: De Bortoli, Melba Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Amphora 2022 (Australia); Pirveli, Saperavi Qvevri 2022 (Georgia); Voskevaz, Haghtanak Karasi Collection 2019 (Armenia).

Founders Mako Abashidze, Isobel Salamon and Tanya Mann express gratitude to participants and look forward to showcasing more unique clay wines worldwide.

Tastings of winning wines will be held in London and Edinburgh this February while submissions for the 2026 contest open this January.
