Saba Literary Prize announces 2025 finalists

The Saba Literary Prize has announced the finalists for its 2025 edition. Now in its 23rd year, the award continues to recognize both emerging and established voices in Georgian literature.

Founded in 2002 by TBC and poet Rati Amaglobeli, the Saba Prize has honored more than 150 authors, with over 200 prizes awarded and 5,000 books reviewed. It remains the country’s most influential recognition in the literary field.

This year, publishers and authors submitted around 250 books. Finalists have been revealed across seven main categories, with the shortlist for “Best Georgian Translation of a Foreign Work” to be published later in August. The winner of the honorary category for “Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Literature” will be announced alongside the other awardees.

  • Davit Khorbaladze

Best Literary Criticism:

  • Teimuraz DoiaShvili
  • Sophio Shamanidi

Best Play:

  • Nodar Mamatsashvili
  • Basa Janikashvili

Best Essay and Documentary Prose:

  • Levan Berdzenishvili
  • Irakli Laitadze
  • Ana Margvelashvili
  • Beso Khvedelidze

Best Short Prose Collection:

  • Armaz Bekari
  • Mamuka Dolidze

Best Poetry Collection:

  • Beka Akhalaia
  • Rezo Getiashvili
  • Gocha Skhiladze
  • Aleksandre Jincharadze

Best Novel:

  • Shota Iatashvili
  • Nodar Ladaria
  • Irakli Metreveli
  • Nino Ortega Chincharauli
  • Mikheil Tsikhelashvili

The Saba Prize winners will be revealed during a ceremony later this year.
