In the framework of operations conducted throughout July 2025, Georgia’s Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance found 18 cases involving the illegal storage, transportation and sale of excisable goods without proper tax markings.
As a result of these nationwide searches, 21 individuals were charged, with 10 placed under arrest. Authorities confiscated 36,234 boxes of non-excised cigarettes of various brands, with an estimated market value exceeding GEL 172,000.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 200 of the Georgian Criminal Code which prescribes a prison sentence of six to eight years for such offenses.
