1 Gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze — Georgian karate athletes excel at the 15th European Championship in Riga

1 Gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze — Georgian karate athletes excel at the 15th European Championship in Riga

From October 22 to 26, the 15th European Karate Championship, organized by the World Union of Karate-Do Federations (WUKF), was held in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The tournament brought together around 1,500 athletes from 35 European countries, including a 15-member delegation from Georgia.

Georgian karate athletes delivered outstanding performances, earning a total of six medals: one gold, two silver, and three bronze.

🥇 Gold Medal:

  • Aleksandre Shamugia — 1st place in individual kata (para-discipline) among adults.

🥈 Silver Medals:

  • Chabuka Makharadze, a four-time world and five-time European Shotokan Karate-Do champion — 2nd place in individual kumite among adults.

  • Davit Guloiani — 2nd place in kumite (under 20, up to 65 kg category).

🥉 Bronze Medals:

  • Irakli Ghonghadze — 3rd place in individual kumite among senior veterans.

  • Saba Surmanidze — 3rd place in kumite (under 20, up to 65 kg category).

  • Sandro Iakobidze — 3rd place in individual kumite (under 9 boys category).
